Hell hath no fury like a white heterosexual cisgender man with their feelings hurt.
Actually that’s one of the most dangerous things on this earth.
Truth.
our value system
^ This. This is exactly how we arbitrarily place value on the lives of others.
i wrote a paper as a senior in high school about this and when tracking the unhealthy relationship symptoms i found this out too. fucking a.
THIS is a legitimate reason to think Twilight is problematic. Not “oooh, but it’s girly literature cause the vampires sparkle and all the teen girls are into Edward”. As funny as some of the sparkly vampires jokes are - and they really sometimes are - Twilight’s very unique take on vampires is the least of the series’ problems, yet this criticism gets heard a lot more than the criticism of people who have noticed that something isn’t quite right in the relationship between Edward and Bella.
“Teen girls like it so it’s stupid!” isn’t a valid critique. But understanding that the Bella/Edward relationship is abusive while simultaneously realizing that it has been delivered to young women packaged as perfect, true love is really important. We can’t keep sending this message out and then get frustrated when women don’t want to leave abusive partners.
THIS. IS WHY. I HATE TWILIGHT.
But understanding that the Bella/Edward relationship is abusive while simultaneously realizing that it has been delivered to young women packaged as perfect, true love is really important.
This.
While I believe that fiction, even children’s and teen’s fiction, should be able to depict anything and everything, the way how things are described is really important. I wouldn’t have any problem with Twilight if it wasn’t so clearly targeted to young girls as an example of a perfect love story.
having a friendship with me is like nurturing a tiny baby seed
you have to be patient and give it lots of water and not get upset if it doesn’t grow right away because it takes a while…..
and then it sprouts and you can tell hey because i talk a little more and maybe start conversations
and then you water it more
and then suddenly it blooms and you realize it’s A WEED YOU DON’T WANT THIS IN YOUR GARDEN BUT IT’S TOO LATE IT NEVER STOPS IT NEVER SHUTS UP
